This website is a database of chess openings and a chess games server.
The purpose of the database is to further the understanding of various chess openings. Openings and variations are entered, analysed and reviewed by the community of users. The lines that are popular are given emphasis. The annotations that are well received are presented first. As more people contribute to and use the system, the corpus of information -- the openings, the analyses, the statistics -- should become more useful. The database's chess board is driven by ajax. Moves are written in standard algebraic notation (English abbreviations).
The chess games server enables you to play chess with others over the Internet, either 24 hours per move (correspondence like games) or 5 minutes per side (lightning games). The former is played through an ASP.NET interface; the latter, a Silverlight interface. Both work through a standard web browser.
The system will compute and track your ELO rating and present a leaderboard.
Since this site is essentially about chess openings, the openings of all games will be determined randomly by the system, and every game will contribute to the openings database.
If you would like to save your games so that you can search for and review past games or even publicize some of them in the community forum, you can do so through the personal chess database service that the site offers. For $10 USD, you can save up to 50 games. In order to save more, you must either delete some of the games already in the system, or buy another 50 slots.
The openings database, the games server, the personal chess database service, and the A.I. chess engine are all designed and provided by Active Data Online Pty Ltd, the maker of perfectcompetition.net.
